Nahaja se v dramatični dolini, ki jo je izrezala reka Douro, Porto je znan po lepoti svojih zgradb in sladkem okusu svojega vina. Središče mesta je Avenida dos Aliados, široka avenija, ki jo obkrožata Praça General H. Delgado in Praça da Liberdade.
